“It Better Not Start Raining”

It Better Not Start Raining

Parked at the center of Edward Beiner’s many passions is his prized 1967 Austin Healey 3000 served up in classic British racing green. Without a doubt, the ‘67 Austin Healey is one of the world’s most revered classic sports cars.

The Austin Healey is to Edward Beiner what a Modigliani, a Cézanne, or a de Kooning is to an art collector.

Driving the Austin Healey is akin to driving a Chef d ’Oeuvre, except the sports car is flawless in both design and mechanical functionality. Ergo, the Austin Healey conforms perfectly to the 20th century modernist design principal that simply states, “form follows function.” As for purpose, she was designed for speed.

In deference to its creator Donald Healey, Edward Beiner points out that the four-wheeled gem is “the brainchild of an accomplished car designer, rally driver, and speed record holder,” revealing a true appreciation for craft and craftsman. As he would reveal for a painting and its painter. A book and its author. Or a machine and its inventor.

The immaculate, light blue and white ‘67 Austin Healey parked in front of Edward Beiner’s flagship store on Sunset features a hard-to-find antique Royal Automobile Club (RAC) medallion on its grill. The RAC medallion shimmers brightly in the Saturday morning sun.

The 38-year-old owner is inside the store, learning every detail about each of the dozen pairs proposed by one of Edward Beiner’s top consultants. He’s seeking a pair of Eyewear that “feels right” when he’s driving his Austin Healey. He explains: “I need a pair that complements the car I drive, protects my eyes from the sun, and addresses my Eyewear prescription at the same time.”

Like most of Edward Beiner’s clientele, the understated commercial real estate broker is all about fine quality, detail, and timeless design.

Interestingly, his intent, like most of Edward Beiner’s clients, isn’t driven by a need to capture “a look.” Rather, it’s about living an experience. From learning about the item’s history and etymology, to understanding its aesthetic form and function.

He finally settles for a pair of light blue handmade Jacky frames from the Edward Beiner Collection, a perfect complement to his classic handsewn Italian lambskin driving gloves, RAC grill medallion and, of course, his Austin Healey.

The consultant’s job is done perfectly. The client is thrilled. And not once did she mention that her boss, Edward Beiner, drives the same car. Live the experience.
