Heritage built by quality
Cartier is known for its use of precious high-quality and noble materials. The use of wood in Cartier eyewear adds a touch of natural elegance and originality to the frames and contributes to their overall luxurious image. The temples on CT0052O are constructed of sustainably sourced North American Bolivar wood which will develop a natural patina over time as a result of aging, making each piece one of a kind.
Cartier has a long history of incorporating colored wood into its eyewear designs, dating back to its early days as a luxury brand. The brand has used various types of colored wood over the years, including exotic species like ebony, bubinga and bolivar wood, as well as more traditional materials like oak. The brand’s use of colored wood in its eyewear has contributed to its reputation as a leader in luxury eyewear and has helped establish its iconic image – reflecting the brand’s commitment to quality and creativity. Today, Cartier continues to incorporate colored wood into its eyewear designs, offering customers a range of unique and elegant options.
The complete color offering
The CT0052O model uses Bolivar wood, also known as Amazona Oliveri, in its colorful eyewear design. This exotic wood is also known for its durability, making it a practical choice for eyewear frames. Cartier’s use of Bolivar wood in its eyewear reflects the brand’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The first Cartier wood frames were released in 1992 and exemplified the brand’s avant-gardism. Each wooden temple is made of thin layers which have been adhered with an epoxy and pressed together under extreme pressure, ensuring maximum quality and durability to the frames. This technique is referred to as “glued-laminated.” Sometimes a layer of carbon fibers is also added to reinforce the wood. These frames are light, comfortable and hypoallergenic. They will develop a natural patina over time as a result of the aging process, making each piece one of a kind.
Sustainable Materials
The process of harvesting wood for Cartier eyewear is complex and carefully managed. It involves sourcing the wood, ensuring its quality and processing it for use in the brand’s eyewear designs. The brand carefully sources wood from selected suppliers, who are required to meet strict environmental and sustainability standards. The wood is then inspected for quality and processed to ensure it meets Cartier’s high standards for durability, appearance and suitability for use in eyewear. This process may involve drying, sanding and finishing the wood to enhance its appearance and ensure it is suitable for use in eyewear frames. Once the wood has been processed, it is then integrated into the eyewear designs, adding a touch of natural elegance and originality to the frames. The use of wood in Cartier eyewear is an important part of the brand’s heritage.
